Jonathan Meets PDP Faction Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Friday, former President Goodluck Jonathan held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja. This meeting follows the faction's adoption of Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, despite his lack of a public declaration to run.

The meeting was described as a strategic engagement focused on the political future of the faction and preparations for the upcoming elections. Key figures from the faction, including Turaki, were present, but details of the discussions remain undisclosed.

Jonathan has faced increasing pressure from supporters to seek another term, responding that any decision would require extensive consultations. In May, the faction formally endorsed him as their candidate during a national convention, where he was described as a unifying figure capable of restoring confidence in governance.

A certificate of return was presented on his behalf at the convention.
