Gbenga Olawepo Hashim Resigns from PDP Amid Crises

Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, a former presidential aspirant, officially resigned from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on April 4, 2026. In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Usuma Ward, Bwari Area Council, he cited persistent internal divisions and unsuccessful reconciliation efforts as the reasons for his departure.

Hashim, a businessman and human rights activist, lamented the party's ongoing crises, which have resulted in a split into two dominant factions. He criticized the PDP for its inability to field credible candidates and for its passive support of the current administration, which he believes undermines democratic values.

Hashim raised concerns about Nigeria's severe challenges, including widespread insecurity, economic distress, and rising poverty. He highlighted the tragic loss of innocent lives due to terrorist violence and criticized the current administration's handling of the economy.

Hashim concluded that it was necessary to pursue a new political path to address urgent political realities and build a new political order in Nigeria.
