Foundation Trains 28 Seed Producers in Bauchi State

The Foundation for Sustainable Smallholder Solutions, in collaboration with the HEINEKEN Africa Foundation, has trained 28 community seed producers and distributed more than 1,000 agricultural inputs to farmers’ hubs in Bauchi State. This initiative aims to improve food production and strengthen climate resilience among smallholder farmers, addressing the limited access to quality agricultural inputs.

Mohammed Dahiru, Manager of the Bulkachuwa Farmers’ Hub in Katagum Local Government Area, stated that the support would ease farmers' access to essential inputs. A two-day seed production training was conducted in Azare, with over half of the 28 participants being women.

The training covered seed quality management and certification requirements. Findings from a 2026 baseline assessment indicated that 87% of seeds used by farmers in northern Bauchi were sourced from local varieties.

Each participating organization received foundation seeds and inputs to cultivate at least three hectares, totaling a minimum of 21 hectares for community seed production.
