FG Distributes 10M Fertilizer Bags to Boost Farmers

On Friday, the Federal Government launched the distribution of 10 million bags of fertilizer and unveiled a guaranteed price scheme aimed at supporting two million smallholder farmers against market volatility and enhancing food production across Nigeria. The ceremony took place in Zaria, Kaduna State, and was inaugurated by Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.

The new model, described by Ezeaja Ikemefuna, Head of the Department of Information, ensures that farmers receive support throughout the production cycle, from planting to harvesting. Each participating farmer will be linked to aggregating companies, with Arzikin Noma leading the pilot phase in Zaria.

The program guarantees a minimum price for farmers to protect them from exploitation by buyers. Kyari emphasized the importance of timely delivery of inputs to improve yields and prevent late planting.

The initiative aims to strengthen local value chains and enhance food security in Nigeria, with a target of enrolling 1 million farmers by 2030.
