Foundation Calls for Nigeria to End Non-Aligned Policy

The Foundation for Peace, through its Executive Director Abdulrazaq Hamzat, has urged the Nigerian government to abandon its outdated non-aligned foreign policy. In a statement released on Friday, Hamzat argued that Nigeria needs to adopt a new foreign policy framework that aligns with its national security and economic interests.

He emphasized that the current global system is no longer defined by the Cold War era's neutrality but is characterized by fierce competition across various sectors, including security, energy, technology, and trade. Hamzat noted that the non-aligned policy, which once protected Nigeria's independence, is now seen as indecisive and detrimental.

He called for a comprehensive reset of Nigeria's foreign policy to engage with global powers while remaining loyal to national interests. The foundation insists that Nigeria must reclaim its position in Africa and command respect on the international stage to safeguard its future amid global turbulence.
