Four Police Officers Dismissed Over Traders' Killings

The Lagos State Police Command announced the dismissal of four police officers allegedly involved in the killing of seven traders at Owod Onirin Market in Kosof Local Government Area. State Commissioner of Police Olohunwa Jimoh disclosed this during a press briefing on Thursday.

The incident, which took place in August last year, involved the shooting of traders during a protest against alleged land grabbing. Initially, five traders were reported dead, with the death toll later rising to seven as two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

The officers, led by Hakim Abiodun Ariori, reportedly opened fire indiscriminately on the traders. Jimoh emphasized that the investigation into the incident is nearly complete, with 98% of the work done, and assured the public that justice would be served.

The police command is also addressing broader issues within the force, including the dissolution of certain tactical squads to enhance law enforcement effectiveness.
