Lagos Policemen Released After Killing Six Traders

Four policemen, identified as Inspector Musa Bala, Inspector Ahm Abass, Corporal Ibrahim Kasimu, and Corporal Ibrahim Garba, were released after the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, Babajid Martin, concluded there was insufficient evidence to prosecute them for the shooting deaths of six traders in the Kosofe area. The incident occurred during an enforcement of a court order regarding land rights claimed by Abiodun Ariori.

The victims were identified as Adeoy Taiwo, Akinloy Seyi, Wale Adebayo, Abraham Idowu, Dare Salaudeen, and Adeoy Akeem. The DPP's legal advice indicated no prima facie evidence to justify prosecution, citing a lack of forensic evidence, autopsy reports, and ballistic analysis.

The DPP noted that the officers acted in self-defense during the incident, and the charges of involuntary manslaughter were withdrawn. Femi Falana, a senior advocate, has called for a review of the DPP's advice to ensure justice.
