France Aims to Ban Kanye West's June Concert in Marseille

France's Interior Minister Laurent Nunez is actively seeking to block Kanye West's scheduled concert on June 11, 2023, at the Velodrome Stadium in Marseille. This decision follows West's history of making antisemitic remarks, which have drawn widespread criticism.

A source close to the minister indicated that Nunez is highly determined to prevent the concert. The rapper, known for his controversial statements, has faced significant backlash, including being barred from entering the UK for a festival and having his performance canceled in July.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed deep concern over West's booking, while Dutch Asylum and Migration Minister Bart van den Brink stated there are currently no plans to bar the rapper from the Netherlands. Discussions regarding the concert ban were held during Nunez's visit to Marseille last week, where the city's left-wing mayor, Benoit Payan, opposed the performance, citing a refusal to allow the promotion of hatred.

West's recent actions include releasing a song titled "Heil Hitler" and selling a T-shirt featuring a swastika, which led to his music being banned from major streaming platforms.
