France's endorsement of the G4 nations—India, Brazil, Germany, and Japan—seeking permanent seats on the Security Council adds weight to their campaign for reforming the council, which currently consists of five permanent members: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, and Russia. The presidency rotates monthly among the 15 council members, allowing the presiding country to chair formal meetings and set the agenda.
