French Football Federation Withdraws Support for Infantino

The French Football Federation (FFF), under the leadership of president Philippe Diallo, has officially retracted its support for Gianni Infantino's bid for re-election as FIFA president. This decision was made unanimously by the FFF's executive committee on Thursday, marking a significant setback for Infantino as he prepares to defend his presidency in 2027.

Diallo expressed that trust in Infantino's management of football has "been broken," indicating a shift in perspective since the FFF initially supported Infantino's candidacy in June when he was the sole declared candidate. The FFF criticized FIFA's current governance methods, which they believe do not align with their views.

Infantino's recent proposal to sell a quarter stake of FIFA competition rights, including the World Cup, to private investment funds faced backlash and was withdrawn in July, further intensifying criticism of his leadership. Other European federations, including the English FA and Italian FA, have also distanced themselves from Infantino.
