Court Grants Ex-AMCON MD Passport for Medical Trip

On October 24, 2023, Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, granted Ahm Kuru, the former Managing Director of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), and Kamilu Omokhid temporary release of their international passports. This decision allows them to travel abroad for medical treatment while they stand trial for alleged economic and financial crimes.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed six counts against them, including conspiracy, theft, and abuse of office, involving a total of N76 billion and $31.5 million. The court was informed that the EFCC did not oppose the application for passport release, but urged for an expedited hearing of the substantive case.

The trial is scheduled to continue on October 26, 2026, with previous proceedings having taken place on June 25, 2026. The court also admitted evidence related to the legal status of AMCON's appointment as receiver for Arik Air, which is central to the ongoing case.
