FRC Seeks Enhanced Support for Fiscal Responsibility Reforms

The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), under the leadership of Chairman Charl Abana, is advocating for enhanced backing for fiscal responsibility reforms in Nigeria. During a visit to the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja, Abana highlighted the need for amendments to the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007 to improve implementation capacity.

He noted the importance of the commission's relationship with the ministry, particularly with Permanent Secretary Raymond Omachi, who is a pioneer staff member of the FRC. Abana discussed the outcomes of a recent management retreat aimed at aligning operations with international best practices and announced plans for a workshop on fiscal responsibility index studies.

He also addressed challenges such as staff shortages due to migration and inadequate office accommodations. Omachi expressed satisfaction with the visit and assured continued support from the ministry, especially during public hearings and stakeholder engagements related to proposed amendments to the Fiscal Responsibility Act.
