Olaopa Advocates for RMAFC Independence in Abuja Meeting

Prof. Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), has called for greater independence for the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to enable it to effectively fulfill its responsibilities.

During a courtesy visit from Dr. Moh Bello Shehu, Chairman of RMAFC, Olaopa emphasized the need for significant legislative upgrades to strengthen the commission's independence and enforcement powers.

He expressed concerns regarding the current remuneration framework for political office holders, which has not been updated in nearly two decades despite inflationary trends. Olaopa highlighted the importance of inter-institutional relationships and collaboration between the FCSC and RMAFC, particularly in addressing issues related to fiscal discipline and resource allocation among government tiers.

He noted the necessity for a recalibrated revenue allocation system that reflects current socio-economic realities. Dr.
