Niger State Crisis Claims 100 Lives, Curfew Imposed

A communal crisis in Rafi Local Government Area, Niger State, has led to the deaths of at least 100 people, prompting the Niger State government to impose a curfew. The violence, which escalated over the weekend, originated from disagreements between the Kamuku and Fulani communities regarding financial distributions from a senator representing Niger East during recent APC primaries.

Despite police efforts to confirm 18 deaths and implement reconciliation measures, the situation deteriorated into full-blown conflict. Reports indicate that the crisis began when members of the Fulani community felt shortchanged in the distribution of financial largess, leading to tensions that resulted in violent confrontations.
