CAN Chairman Calls for Peace Amid Niger State Clashes

In response to ongoing violent clashes among the Bargarawas, Fulanis, and Kambari tribes in the Borgu and Agwara Local Government Areas of Niger State, Most Reverend Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has intervened by seeking restraint from the combatants. In a statement made available to journalists in Minna, he described the violence as “ungodly and worrisome,” urging the tribes to stop the fighting and killings.

He emphasized the importance of peace, noting that the communities had coexisted harmoniously for decades before the recent conflicts, which he attributed to external elements infiltrating the area. Yohanna called on the Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Muhammed Haliru Dantoro, to establish a peace and conflict resolution committee.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Niger State Governor Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Bago for their efforts in enhancing security in the affected regions.
