Tinubu's Key Role in Buhari's 2015 Campaign Funding

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stated that President Bola Tinubu was instrumental in the All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the 2015 presidential election. Lawal claimed that Tinubu mobilized campaign funds exceeding ₦2 billion, financed Yemi Osinbajo's vice-presidential campaign, and hired political consultants associated with former U.S.

President Barack Obama to improve the campaign strategy and Buhari's public image. Lawal noted that while Muhammadu Buhari had a strong support base in northern Nigeria, he lacked the financial resources and nationwide political structure necessary to defeat the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Tinubu addressed these gaps by leveraging his political influence and extensive network. Lawal emphasized that Tinubu personally covered major campaign expenses rather than relying on the APC's campaign funds, indicating his significant financial commitment to the campaign.
