Kano Governor Attributes Education Gains to Reforms

Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf stated that the progress in the state's education sector is a result of deliberate policy reforms, sustained investment, and a commitment to improving access to quality education. He made these remarks through his Technical Adviser on Education Reform, Haladu Muhammad, at the International Parliamentary Roundtable on Reading Revolution in the House of Lords, Westminster, UK.

Yusuf declared a state of emergency in education upon taking office, emphasizing its importance for sustainable development. His administration has allocated approximately 30% of its annual budget to education for three consecutive years, positioning Kano as a leading investor in education in Nigeria.

The governor reported the recruitment of 16,000 teachers within three years to enhance teaching quality and has implemented large-scale interventions to reduce out-of-school children. Additionally, reforms have been introduced to promote girls' education and improve gender equality.

Yusuf expressed confidence that Kano would continue to serve as a model for education reform in Nigeria and Africa.
