Dutse Residents Struggle with Soaring Ram Prices

In Dutse, residents are facing a significant increase in ram prices, which have shot up by 300% compared to the previous season. Large-sized rams are now being sold for N500,000, while bred bulls are priced at N1 million, a stark rise from previous prices of N130,000 to N400,000.

Traders attribute this price hike to the high cost of animal feed, which has become extremely expensive. Malam Musa Ayuba, an animal rearer, noted that the rising costs have made it increasingly difficult to manage livestock.

Alhaji Abubakar Jamilu expressed concern that many families cannot afford to slaughter a ram this season due to these exorbitant prices. Umar Abdu described the trend as an unbearable challenge, leading families to resort to alternative measures to cope with the situation.

Nuhu Iliyasu mentioned that some families are contributing money to buy cows and share the meat, while Ishak Ibrahim noted that others are opting to buy chickens to celebrate the season.
