Singapore's Ministry of Manpower Updates Work Permit Rules

Singapore's Ministry of Manpower announced that starting November 29, 2026, all foreign workers, regardless of nationality, will only be allowed to commence work once their Work Permit has been formally issued or if they possess a valid Temporary Permit (TP) letter. Previously, non-Malaysian workers could start work from their second day of arrival using an in-principle approval (IPA) letter.
The new regulations will also streamline the application process, allowing employers to apply for a Temporary Permit through the Work Permit eService on the myMOM Portal. For non-Malaysian workers, the TP application must be submitted on the day the worker is needed, while Malaysian workers must apply after receiving the IPA.
Levy charges will begin on the day the TP is granted. Additionally, the ministry is transitioning key administrative functions from the WP Online platform to the myMOM Portal, with further enhancements planned for 2027.
