UK-Nigeria SDP4 Dialogue Strengthens Security Cooperation

The SDP4 dialogue, held in Abuja, represents a crucial development in the security partnership between the United Kingdom and Nigeria. Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria's National Security Adviser, highlighted the importance of this partnership as a central pillar of broader strategic relations, emphasizing mutual trust and shared interests.

Jonathan Powell, the UK's National Security Adviser, described the partnership as maturing into an equal relationship focused on practical outcomes. The dialogue, which builds on previous engagements, aims to enhance cooperation in counter-terrorism, cyber security, and maritime security.

It acknowledges the evolving nature of security threats, including transnational terrorism and cybercrime, necessitating coordinated responses. The partnership is positioned as a model for regional cooperation, with Nigeria's leadership role in addressing security challenges in West Africa being underscored.

The next SDP4 dialogue is scheduled for July 2025 in London, aiming to review progress in various areas of cooperation.
