Nigeria and UK Enhance Defense Cooperation Amid Security Challenges

Nigeria is strengthening its defense cooperation with the United Kingdom to address evolving security challenges. General Christoph Musa, the Nigerian Minister of Defence, reiterated the country's commitment during a meeting in Abuja with Jonathan Powell, the UK National Security Advisor.

This engagement took place alongside the 4th UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Partnership (SDP4) dialogue, which involved high-level discussions aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in counter-terrorism and intelligence sharing. Musa emphasized the importance of this strategic relationship, noting efforts to modernize security protocols and enhance technical training for the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria's National Security Advisor, and Jonathan Powell, and concluded with the adoption of a robust agenda to advance bilateral security cooperation through a comprehensive review of existing memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and initiatives extending to 2026 and beyond.
