Lagos State Launches 35 Youth Centers for Safe Spaces

The Lagos State government is launching a project to establish 35 youth centers, referred to as Opportunity Hubs, to create safe spaces for young people. This initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD) under the leadership of Mobolaji Abubakr Ogunlend, with Toyin Ok Osanyintolu serving as the Permanent Secretary.

The Technical Work Group on Youth Engagement aims to move beyond occasional programs to support community-based centers where youth can gather, learn, and access opportunities. This initiative responds to the challenges faced by the youth in Lagos, including unemployment, insecurity, and mental health pressures.

The centers will serve as platforms for skill development, mentorship, and health services, including sexual and reproductive health support. The MYSD emphasizes co-creation with the youth to build trust and ensure these centers meet their needs, fostering a sense of belonging and active citizenship.
