NGO Launches N1.2bn Youth Rehab Center in Lagos

On May 30, 2026, an NGO unveiled a N1.2 billion youth rehabilitation center located in Victoria Garden City, Lekki, Lagos. The initiative, led by founder Rev.

Mr. Helen Nkwo, aims to provide hope and recovery opportunities for young people struggling with drug addiction and substance abuse.

Nkwo, who has 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, has dedicated her time to humanitarian work focused on youth rehabilitation. The establishment of the center is urgent due to rising drug abuse rates among Nigerian youth, with data from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency indicating that 13.6% of secondary school students have experienced drug use and 6.9% are active users.

The center is expected to offer rehabilitation programs, mental health support, vocational training, and reintegration services. Currently, Lagos State lacks dedicated rehabilitation centers for females, and existing facilities for males cannot meet the growing demand.

The launch event aimed to mobilize support from corporate organizations, schools, and community stakeholders for the project.
