N1.2bn Youth Rehabilitation Center Launched in Lagos

On May 30, 2026, a non-profit organization formally launched a N1.2 billion youth rehabilitation center at the Swiss International Hotel in Victoria Garden City, Lekki, Lagos. The initiative, led by Rev.

Mr. Helen Nkwo, aims to provide hope and recovery opportunities for young people struggling with drug addiction and substance abuse.

Nkwo, who has 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, has dedicated her time to humanitarian work focused on youth rehabilitation. The organization cited alarming statistics from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, indicating that 13.6% of secondary school students have experienced drug use, with 6.9% being active users.

Additionally, 14.3 million Nigerians are involved in drug use nationwide. The center is expected to offer mental health support, psychosocial services, vocational training, and reintegration programs.

Currently, Lagos State lacks dedicated rehabilitation centers for females, and existing facilities for males cannot meet the rising demand. The launch event aimed to mobilize support from corporate organizations, schools, and community stakeholders for the project.
