Shehu Mohammed's Leadership Transforms Nigeria's Road Safety

Mallam Shehu Mohammed has been at the helm of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) since its establishment in 1988, inheriting a mandate to improve road safety in Nigeria. Under his leadership, the FRSC has evolved into a leading road safety agency in Africa, addressing Nigeria's historical challenges with road safety, which the World Health Organization previously ranked among the most dangerous globally.

Mohammed's tenure has emphasized technological advancements, operational efficiency, and a people-centered approach to safety. Significant achievements include training 3,000 personnel, automating 95% of operational processes, and enhancing traffic management through a nationwide crash report information system.

The FRSC has also reduced emergency response times dramatically from 50 minutes to 15 minutes. Mohammed's leadership has fostered collaborations with various stakeholders, leading to a significant reduction in tanker-related crashes and reinforcing Nigeria's commitment to global road safety initiatives for 2021-2030.
