FRSC Launches Movement to Combat Overloading in Nigeria

On Thursday, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) launched the National Movement for Safe Loading and Safe Road Use during the National Breakfast Policy Dialogue in Abuja. The event, organized in partnership with Business Day Media Limited, aimed to address unsafe loading practices in Nigeria's transportation sector.

Corp Marshal Shehu Mohammed stated that overloading poses significant risks, affecting vehicle stability and road infrastructure. He emphasized that overloading is not merely a traffic violation but a broader issue impacting road safety, logistics, and economic development.

Mohammed called for shared responsibility among cargo owners, transporters, and regulators to ensure compliance with safe loading practices. He announced that FRSC would enhance enforcement and public education while adopting technology for proactive road safety measures.

Additionally, he discussed the Abuja Declaration 2026, which aims to create a national commitment with clear responsibilities and monitoring mechanisms to improve road safety in Nigeria.
