FRSC Commits to Safe Transition to EVs and CNG Vehicles

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), under the leadership of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Nigeria's transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered transportation is guided by stringent road safety standards. This announcement was made during the third Nigeria Auto Industry Summit, organized by the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) in Lagos, with the theme “Nigeria’s Clean Mobility Future: The EV and CNG Journey Under the Bola Tinubu Administration.” Shehu Mohammed emphasized that while the adoption of alternative-fuel vehicles offers significant opportunities, it must be accompanied by robust safety regulations and effective enforcement.

He noted that as these vehicles become more prevalent, regulatory institutions must adapt through specialized training and updated operational guidelines. The FRSC is positioning itself to support this transition by enhancing safety regulations and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of cleaner mobility extend beyond carbon emission reduction to include improved road safety and public confidence in new transport technologies.
