FRSC Reports 61.29% Drop in Tanker Fatalities

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported a significant 61.29% decrease in tanker-related fatalities, alongside a 15.53% decline in crash severity. This achievement is directly linked to the implementation of the Safe Load Program, which was introduced in 2015 to align Nigeria with global safety protocols for transporting dangerous goods.

The program has led to a compliance rate of 58.2% among Class G driver license requirements and an impressive 99.4% installation of critical safety components, such as leak-proof systems. FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed emphasized the importance of continued enforcement and warned that tankers failing to meet safe load requirements would be denied loading.

He also highlighted the need for comprehensive investigations into tanker-related crashes and stressed the unacceptable nature of violations, including tampering with speed limit devices and poor maintenance. The FRSC remains committed to deepening technology-driven monitoring systems and strengthening partnerships with industry stakeholders.
