‘Fubara Has Been Boxed Into A Corner’ – Tension In Rivers State As Tinubu’s Emergency Rule Nears End

Tension is rising in Rivers State as President Tinubu's emergency rule, which suspended democratic institutions in the state on March 18, 2025, nears its end. The President appointed retired Chief Naval Staff Ibas as the sole administrator, who suspended political appointees, including Fubara, the predecessor of the current governor.

Fubara's government had initiated several projects, but progress has been slow under Ibas' administration. Stakeholders in Rivers State are setting expectations for Fubara's reinstatement, with calls for completing abandoned road projects and promoting civil servant hiring.
