Rivers Governor Fubara to Resume with Restrictions, APC Influence Grows

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is set to resume office on September 18 under new restrictions following the end of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in March. Fubara's reinstatement comes with strict conditions that limit his control over critical areas of governance, including local government authority and key appointments.

The recent local government election saw the Progressives Congress (APC) secure 20 out of 23 council seats, shifting considerable influence to the party. Fubara has been offered the option to join the APC, but any defection must be a personal decision.

The move aims to ensure peace and prevent conflicts between the governor, lawmakers, and political stakeholders in Rivers State.
