Fubara Promises Investigation into Kula Community Deaths
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has committed to investigating the deaths of 10 individuals in Kula community, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area. The victims drowned when a boat capsized during a protest against the retrieval of an oil vessel from the community.
Fubara addressed residents of Kula who protested peacefully at Government House in Port Harcourt, represented by his Chief of Staff, Sunny Ewule. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and urged the community to remain calm, promising that anyone found responsible for the incident would face legal repercussions.
Fubara emphasized that the state government would work diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the deaths, stating, “We are not going to sit by and allow Rivers indigenes to go through this type of unnecessary death.” High Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, leader of the Kula community delegation, indicated that they sought government intervention to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
