Rivers Court Pauses Impeachment Case Pending Appeal Outcome

The Rivers State court in Port Harcourt has adjourned indefinitely a suit filed by Governor Fubara's deputy, Ngozi Odu, challenging the impeachment process initiated by the River State House of Assembly. Justice Florence Fiberesima stepped aside pending the outcome of two separate appeals.

The court of appeal will first determine the issues raised before deciding on further proceedings. The case involves counsel representing the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhul, and 27 lawmakers.

The Chief Judge of Rivers State declined to constitute a panel to investigate the alleged gross misconduct, citing the need to await the appeal outcome.
