Oyo Governor Makinde Approves N10,000 Transport Relief

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a N10,000 transport allowance for state workers to help cushion the effects of the recent increase in pump prices of petrol, officially known as Premium Motor Spirit. The announcement was made by Kayode Martin, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, during a statement in Ibadan, the state capital.

This intervention follows a formal request made by the state council of the Nigeria Labour Congress earlier that morning. The approved allowance is set to take effect in April 2026 and aims to provide necessary relief for workers facing rising transportation costs amid ongoing economic challenges.

This development is a direct response to sustained advocacy from the state NLC to mitigate the impact of increasing living expenses on the workforce. Further details regarding the implementation of this allowance are expected to be communicated by relevant government authorities in due course.

Additionally, Governor Makinde announced the commencement of a N1.5 billion relief fund to be disbursed over three months starting in April.
