Ogun State Approves N10,000 Allowance and Weekly Day Off

The Ogun State Government has approved a N10,000 monthly transport allowance and a weekly day off for public servants to mitigate the effects of rising fuel prices and inflation. This intervention, announced by Mr.

Kehinde Onasanya, the head of service, will be implemented for three months starting from April 2026. The initiative aims to ease transportation challenges faced by workers due to the recent increase in fuel prices.

Public servants will be entitled to one day off duty per week, improving work-life balance, although certain categories of workers, including medical personnel, judiciary staff, teachers, and security personnel, will be exempt from the weekly day off due to the critical nature of their duties. However, these exempt workers will still receive the transport allowance.

This measure comes amid rising inflationary pressures in Nigeria, with the National Bureau of Statistics reporting a headline inflation rate of 15.38% in March 2026, up from 15.06% in February. Onasanya emphasized that the initiative reflects Governor Dapo Abiodun's commitment to prioritizing worker welfare.
