Gbenga Ibileye Appointed Vice Chancellor of Lokoja University

Gbenga Ibileye has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, marking a significant milestone for the Okun people in Kogi State. This appointment follows a meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan, who acknowledged the educational needs of the Okun community, particularly the absence of a federal university in the region despite their historical contributions to national educational development.

Jonathan's administration had previously established nine federal universities, including Lokoja, on February 16, 2011. Ibileye, who is the second indigenous Vice Chancellor from Kogi State, succeeds Prof.

Angela Freeman Miri and is recognized for his academic rigor and commitment to education. His predecessor, Prof.

Miri, completed her duties in February 2021. The appointment is seen as a step towards enhancing educational opportunities for the Okun people, who have made significant contributions across various fields globally.
