Banks to Close for Eid ul-Mawlid in 15 Indian States

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that bank branches in 15 states will be closed on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, to observe Eid ul-Mawlid, which commemorates the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad. The holiday begins on Tuesday, August 25, and continues through the evening of August 26.

The affected states include Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand. On this day, customers will not have access to counter services such as cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque processing, and passbook updates at physical branches.

However, ATM withdrawals and digital banking services, including internet banking and UPI transactions, will remain operational. Customers are advised to complete any transactions that require branch access before or after the holiday to avoid disruptions.
