Nigeria Banks to Close for Eid ul Mawlid Holiday

Banks and financial institutions across Nigeria will be closed on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, due to a public holiday declared to mark Eid ul Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Interior, with Permanent Secretary Dr Magdalene Ajani issuing the statement on behalf of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Customers are encouraged to utilize ATMs, apps, and other electronic payment channels, as digital services will remain active despite the branch closures. Tunji-Ojo extended greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and urged all citizens to reflect on the values associated with the Holy Prophet's life, emphasizing the importance of peace and national cohesion.

The holiday applies to federal government offices, banks, and most formal sector establishments nationwide. Ahead of the holiday, banks are expected to promote the use of digital platforms for transactions.
