Countries That Have Hosted the Olympic Games

The Olympic Games have been hosted across various countries since their inception in 1896 in Athens. The United States has hosted the most Olympic Games, totaling eight across four cities, including four Summer and four Winter Olympics.

The upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics will mark the country's ninth hosting. France has hosted six Olympic Games, with three Summer Olympics in Paris and three Winter Olympics in the French Alps, and is set to host the 2030 Winter Olympics, increasing its total to seven.

Japan has hosted four Olympic Games, with Tokyo hosting two Summer editions and two Winter Games in its mountainous regions. Italy recently hosted the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, bringing its total to four, with two Summer and two Winter Olympics.

The IOC confirmed Milano Cortina as the host for the 2026 Games in 2019.
