FG Names 48 Individuals Financing Terrorism in Nigeria

The Nigerian government has published a list of 48 individuals and groups suspected of financing terrorism, which includes connections to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ansaru, and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). This announcement was made by the Nigeria Sanctions Committee (NIGSAC) on a Saturday.

The release follows ongoing challenges in addressing terrorism financing in Nigeria, complicated by legal bottlenecks and international networks. Furthermore, the Global Terror Index (GTI) report indicates that Nigeria has experienced a sharp increase in terrorism-related fatalities, rising by 46 percent in 2025, despite a global decline in terror deaths.

The report highlights that the concentration of terrorism remains a significant issue in Nigeria, which ranks among the most affected countries globally.
