22 Lawmakers Defect from NNPP to APC in Kano, Nigeria

In a significant political development in Kano, Nigeria, 22 lawmakers, including eight members of the state House of Assembly and eight members of the House of Representatives, have defected from the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This mass defection, announced on Saturday, has weakened NNPP's influence in the state's legislature at both state and federal levels.

The defection was confirmed in separate statements by the spokesperson for the Speaker of the State Assembly, Kamaluddeen Shawai, and the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sanusi Batur Shawai. The move has left NNPP with just two members in the state legislature, down from the initial 26 seats they held.

The APC now commands a majority in the Kano State House of Assembly with 40 members out of 44. The list of defecting lawmakers includes prominent figures like Abdulmumin Jibrin, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, Muhammad Ibrahim, and Lawan Hussain.
