INEC Approves Registration of Two New Political Parties in Nigeria Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has recently approved the registration of two new political parties, the Nigeria Democrat Congress (NDC) and Democrat Leadership Alliance (DLA), during its first regular consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja. The registration of these two parties follows a rigorous evaluation process that involved 171 political associations seeking registration.

The NDC, which describes itself as a centrist political platform focusing on social justice, equitable resource distribution, and strengthening democratic institutions, aims to provide an alternative platform for Nigerians dissatisfied with existing major political parties. With these new approvals, the total number of registered political parties in Nigeria has now increased to 20, offering more choices to voters in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
