INEC Registers NDC and Another Party for 2027 Elections, Plans Voter Revalidation Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered two new political parties, including the New Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 elections. The registration followed a rigorous assessment process, with 171 letters of intent received from political party associations.

Joash Amupitan, the INEC Chairman, highlighted that the NDC's registration was in compliance with a court order. Additionally, a nationwide voter revalidation exercise is planned, with a warning against misinformation.

Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi of the Nigerian Union of Journalists stressed the media's readiness to support election campaigns and voter education. The Permanent Voter Card (PVC) will be the sole means of voter accreditation during elections, with the option for voters to download a voter accreditation slip from the INEC website.
