US Missions in Nigeria Announce 2026 Holiday Closures

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have published their remaining public holiday schedule for 2026, indicating that both missions will close on eight occasions from August to December. The first closure will occur on Tuesday, August 25, for Eid-El-Maulud, celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad, a recognized public holiday in Nigeria.

Subsequent closures include Monday, September 7, for Labour Day in the United States, and Thursday, October 1, for Nigeria’s Independence Day. Additional closures are set for Monday, October 12, for Columbus Day in the United States, Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans Day, and Thursday, November 26, for Thanksgiving Day.

The missions will also be closed on Friday, December 25, for Christmas Day, and Saturday, December 26, for Boxing Day, which is recognized in Nigeria. The embassy advised visa applicants and those seeking consular services to plan their appointments around these closures, noting that emergency assistance for U.S. citizens will remain available throughout the holiday periods.
