US Embassy in Abuja Suspends Most Visa Processing

The US Embassy in Abuja announced on August 31 that it has suspended most nonimmigrant visa processing in Nigeria. However, it confirmed that a narrow category of diplomatic and official visas, specifically A, G, and C visas, will continue to be processed.

The Embassy advised applicants who believe they qualify for these visa categories to first consult with their protocol offices that manage visa matters. No timeline was provided for when standard nonimmigrant visa processing would resume.

The Embassy also reminded applicants about the non-refundable visa application fee, known as the MRV fee, which must be paid before submitting any nonimmigrant visa application. This fee is applicable regardless of whether the visa is issued or denied and is non-transferable.

The fee amount varies by visa type, and children are not exempt from this requirement. The Embassy directed applicants to travel.state.gov for a detailed breakdown of fees by visa category.

Additionally, the Embassy cautioned against submitting forged documents or misleading information during the application process.
