SDP Confirms Shehu Gabam's Expulsion, Gomb Remains Chairman

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially stated that Shehu Gabam has been expelled from the party and that Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gomb continues to serve as the legitimate national chairman.

This clarification was issued by Rufu Aiyenigba, the party's national public secretary, in Abuja, following confusion over a recent court appeal ruling concerning the party's Ekiti State governorship primary held on August 8, 2025. The SDP accused Gabam of deliberately distorting court pronouncements to mislead the public and revive his political standing.

The statement emphasized that Gabam's expulsion, which was ratified by the national executive committee on March 9, 2026, was due to gross financial misconduct. Gabam has been suspended since June 2025 and subsequently expelled in October of the same year.

The SDP confirmed that Gabam is no longer a member of the party and is facing criminal proceedings for misappropriation of party funds. The party remains focused on strengthening its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
