SDP Sues Former Chairman Over ₦626 Million Misconduct

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has initiated legal proceedings against its former National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, in a magistrate court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to allegations of financial misconduct involving ₦626 million. The party's statement from Gombe clarified that this action is part of their efforts to restore transparency and accountability within the organization ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The court has granted Gabam bail under stringent conditions, including a ₦3 million bond and the surrender of his international passport, along with two sureties with land properties in Abuja. This legal action follows an internal audit review of the party's financial records for the 2022-2023 period, which uncovered discrepancies linked to the party's accounts.

The current leadership of the SDP considers it necessary to seek judicial intervention to examine the financial documents. The party emphasizes that this move is not aimed at targeting individuals but rather to protect the integrity of the institution and ensure due process is followed.
