Galatasaray Falls 3-1 to Sporting Lisbon in UCL Opener

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk addressed the media following his team's 3-1 defeat to Sporting Lisbon in their opening match of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League season. The match, held in Portugal, saw Galatasaray initially take the lead through Lukas Toreira.

However, Sporting Lisbon equalized with a goal from Geny Catamo, followed by additional goals from Luis Javier Suarez and Rodrigo Zalazar, securing the victory for the home side. Victor Osimhen was absent from the squad due to a groin injury, with Baris Alper filling the center-forward role.

Despite creating three clear scoring opportunities, Galatasaray failed to convert any, which troubled Buruk more than the final score. He noted that while his team controlled significant portions of the game, their wastefulness in front of goal was a critical issue.

Osimhen is also expected to miss the upcoming league match against Kocaelispor as he continues his recovery.
