Gambia to Study Nigeria's TETFund for Education Development

The Government of the Republic of Gambia, represented by Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Pierre Gomez, announced plans to undertake a study tour of Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). This announcement was made during a visit to TETFund's headquarters in Abuja, where Gomez led a high-powered delegation to meet with TETFund's Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono.

The purpose of the visit was to inform Echono about the establishment of Gambia’s Tertiary and Higher Education Trust (THET) Fund, which is modeled after Nigeria’s TETFund. Gomez expressed the need for collaboration between TETFund and THET, particularly in research and capacity development, to strengthen diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Gambia.

Echono welcomed the delegation and provided a brief history of TETFund, explaining its evolution from the Education Trust Fund (ETF) and its establishment in response to a crisis in the tertiary education sector over three decades ago.
