Gas Leak Claims Lives of Miners at Plateau Site

A tragic gas leak at a mining site in Plateau, specifically in the Wase Local Government Area, has resulted in the deaths of dozens of miners. The incident occurred early in the morning when workers, who were reportedly digging deep underground, were suddenly exposed to dangerous gas.

According to local youth leader Shafi Sambo, the exact number of fatalities has not been officially confirmed, but reports indicate that at least 37 miners inhaled the toxic substance. Rescue operations were initiated, with survivors transported to nearby hospitals for treatment; however, the total number of survivors remains unverified at the time of reporting.

The mining site is operated by Zurak Company, believed to be owned by Chinese investors, although details regarding the exact nature of the mining operations have not been immediately verified. Following the incident, Nigerian Army soldiers were deployed to the area to seal off the site and prevent further exposure to the gas, ensuring security personnel maintained order around the mine.
