Gbajabiamila Advocates Merit-Based Education Access

Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, stated that access to education in Nigeria should be determined by merit and potential, not privilege. He made these remarks during the 2026 International Day of Education conference, themed "Reimagining the Future of Education in Nigeria." Gbajabiamila highlighted the importance of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which was established following the assent of a bill by President Tinubu within the first three months of his administration.

This initiative aims to ensure that no capable Nigerian student is denied tertiary education due to financial hardship. He stressed that education is a crucial tool for national development and that the 10th House of Representatives is committed to strengthening oversight of the tertiary education fund to support student welfare.

Additionally, he noted that Nigeria must invest heavily in education to compete effectively on the global stage, as emphasized by Fuad Laguda, Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Polytechnic and Higher Technical Education.
